EQUINE FACILITATED LEARNING

SO WHAT IS EQUINE FACILITATED LEARNING?

EFL is fast becoming a popular choice of therapy for children and young adults in the UK.

Based on the concepts that horses are able to teach a person about themselves and spending time with horses can positively influence a person’s life, EFL is delivered through objectively driven exercises in a safe, fun and exciting atmosphere.  Participants find themselves learning valuable life skills and gaining self-confidence, through validated hands-on experiences.

Unlike other forms of traditional therapy, EFL does not require a clinical professional. The professionals are the horses. The participant will be guided by the horse to solve their own problems, whilst building skills to move forward, not only in the session, but in their lives too.

EFL activities are done from the ground and include bonding, herd observation, grooming, leading, hand grazing, general horse care and obstacle courses. Sessions often include activities away from the horses where the participant can reflect. Every session is adapted to the individual needs of the participant and the horse.
